These Children are Our Children Timeline Wall Mosaic at Summit County Board of Children's Services, 1997
5’h x 10'w x 1 1/4"d ceramics, sculpted relief with underglaze 2003 The Board of Children's Services commissioned this mural to commemorate their 100-year history as a predominate childcare agency. Utilizing an extensive collection of photographs on file at the Center; we created a pictorial and chronological timeline history of the organization to display in a prominent corridor across from the boardroom. The photographs were applied to ceramic tile using a silk-screened enamel technique developed by Aliberti Art tile in the mid-1990s. The photographs that create the timeline—the different buildings, the Board's Presidents, reunions, children from the Orphanage at special occasions—were screened onto various sized tiles and installed among the field tile with the aid of an elaborate blueprint during installation making a continuous 9'h x 15'w wall mosaic. A regenerated 1910 postcard of Summit County Orphanage on tile, surrounded by a photo-tile montage part of a visual time-line mosaic of their history. The theme "These Children are Our Children" is depicted using a repeating field tile 4 sq.' design created using a montage of candid photos of children who lived at the Center though out the decades. |
